We started this term thinking about how inventions have changed the way we live, learn and play.

We discussed why people invent things:

  • To help us do things
  • To help us travel
  • To protect the environment
  • To help animals
  • To make things easier
  • To entertain us
  • To keep us warm and safe

We used the alphabetical thinkers key to help us think about the variety of inventions there are.

We were very lucky to have friends of the school bring in the inventions they use to help them travel.
First we have a visit from Sarah with her horse and cart. A couple of us even got to ride in it.

Then Bryce dropped in in his helicopter, a very different invention, but still used to help people travel.

We looked at the parts of the helicopter really carefully and did some junk modelling to create our own helicopter. We even got the rotor blades to turn around by using split pins.
